Blueprint is Yahoo!’s language for mobile widget development. It’s based on a versatile, XML syntax and open environment, allowing developers to maximize their reach and build widgets that work across hundreds of mobile devices. With Blueprint, developers can create a widget that looks brilliant on an iPhone and on Blackberry, and also works in an XHTML browser.
Blueprint allows you to take full advantage of the same programming environment used to create the mobile services available on the Yahoo! home page. Developers can leverage the expertise that was used to create Yahoo! mobile services that run today, on almost any mobile device.
Leading mobile device manufacturers, including LG Electronics, Motorola and ACCESS, a global provider of advanced mobile software technologies, are collaborating to make Yahoo! Go 3.0 and its gallery of widgets available on multiple devices. The combined efforts of Yahoo! and these partners will continue to drive the mobile industry forward by making compelling content from the greater Internet more accessible to consumers, worldwide.
In the next release of the Blueprint, developers will be able to take full advantage of the power of XForms-style MVC programming, and run widgets directly on all supported devices. Future releases will include new features to enhance widget development efforts. Maps, enhanced security and tables will give developers the ability to create widgets with improved functionality.
In addition, Blueprint will provide access to superior, powerful controls, and performance-enhancing caching options. Developers can cache data in local devices or other local storage, resulting in less network round-trips, and enhancing widget performance.
